You Are Precious and Honored in His Eyes

By Kori de Leon

“But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I give Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in exchange for you. Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you.’” Isaiah 43:1-4 (ESV)

There are days when we struggle with feeling unloved and undesirable—whether it's from a strained relationship, not being included, a child left alone at the lunch table, a widow taken advantage of, or anyone who has suffered abuse. These feelings can be accompanied by deep pain, leaving us feeling alone and discouraged.

Yet, when our hearts ache in this way—feeling like a child sitting alone on a cold floor, the words of Isaiah 43 are like a warm blanket of comfort that God wraps around us. He sits with his people in their pain, reassuring them of His profound love by declaring, “You are mine.” In our lowest moments, this reminder can be transformative. It tells us that despite how others may treat us or how isolated we may feel, we are never alone or uncared for.

Imagine the Israelites, a nation that had seen glory days but had become defeated and seemingly undesirable. How powerful it must have been for them to hear God declare them precious and honored in his sight! The God who restored their dignity and reassured them of His love does the same for us today.

This passage invites us to shed the heavy cloak of feeling unloved and uncared for and to wrap ourselves in the comfort of God’s love. We are not alone in the world; we are His. We are not unloved and despised; we are precious and honored. He walks with us through the deepest waters and the fiercest fires, as a committed Friend, Savior, and Husband.

Reflect on how these promises of God might apply to your life today. How might His words comfort and restore your sense of wholeness in his love?

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for reminding us that we are Yours. In moments of loneliness and the pain of being unloved, help us to feel Your presence and to cling to the truth that we are precious and honored in Your sight. Teach us to see ourselves and others through Your eyes and to live in the comfort of Your love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

To Adore Christ More:
Romans 8:39, “Nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (ESV)
